Apple Watch requires iPhone. Some Samsung features require a Galaxy phone. Sports watches and rings are usually broader.

Four decisions remove most of the list
A screen handles workouts and alerts. A band or ring keeps attention on the phone app.
Maps and running dynamics point toward sports watches. Sleep comfort and readiness point toward bands or rings.
Separate hardware cost from membership, optional coaching, LTE, and paid partner services.

04 · Accuracy and evidence
Accuracy changes by metric and activity
A device can track steady walking heart rate well and still lag during lifting or intervals. Sleep duration, sleep stages, GPS distance, heart rate, energy expenditure, and recovery scores require different reference methods.
- Manufacturer specifications stay labeled as claims.
- External tests name the tester, device, firmware, protocol, and reference.
- A one-person test can find a problem. It cannot prove a population-wide result.
- FPW does not write "tested" until FPW has run and documented the test.
